MEAT-EATING HINDUS SHOULD AVOID BEEF

The article by Vishal Aggarwal about the book "Holy Cow a Myth? An Indian Finds the Kick Is Real" by author Jha is a good objective presentation - a big Thanks to Vishal.

The book in summary sets out to prove that ancient Hindus were beef-eaters. Though being a meat-eating Hindu and having sacrificed a few goats and chickens as prasad during holy festivals, due to my background I am of the opinion the cow should be protected throught India.

Infact even in my other articles where I have tried to educate the ultra pro-Brahminical vegetarian elements that rant and rave indiscriminately and in total prejudice against meat-eating Hindus I have always maintained good Hindus (veggies or meat-eaters) should revere the cow following the dictates of Lord Krishna.

The scholar Mr. Jha may be right that Hindus may have been voracious beef-eaters- after all Greeks, Romans and other ancients having beliefs common to vedic hindus were beef-eaters.
However Lord Krishna decreed cow is for agriculture and milk and since we respect him as the ultimate Lord and Master of Yoga in whom the entire universe exists let us Hindus and Indians irrespective of our caste, sect, creed and what our ancient pre-Krishna ancestors did, PROTECT THE COW.
In that I have to add a few suggestions for the Indian society to implement.
Protect the cow and make it a valuable member of society by doing the following

1. TREAT IT WELL WITH DIGNITY:

Gandhiji bemoaned the horrible abuses of the cow in the Indian society and the emaciated state of the cow clearly demonstrates this. In the western society though beef is consumed there are rigid standards on how animals are treated, even those set for slaughterhouse. The cow though mostly free from slaughter in India gets poor treatment and people that indiscriminately beat or abandon an ineffective cow are hardly punished.

2. CONTROL THE BOVINE POPULATION BY EFFECTIVE BIRTH CONTROL:

Like human beings the cow population should be controlled through birth control ensuring optimal number of healthy calves are produced, which when reaching adulthood can aid us in farming and milk.

3. Finally PUNISH INDIVIDUALS THAT MISTREAT AND ABUSE THE COW:

The cow is a pet in India and an integral part of our social and agrarian culture. When a person harms a pet dog or cat they face certain punishments and the same should be extended for a cow. Muslims and Christians of India in particular should be prohibited from abusing secularism and instead feed on goats and lambs like the way we do (i.e Hindus of our caste).

In conclusion Mother India has a universal religion called Sanatana Dharma for all types of individuals ranging from the purely spiritual monk who is interested only in meditation and gives no importance to food and drink TO the active and dynamic individual that seeks to fulfill their sensual enjoyments including their palette desire for meat or even wine. But there is no reason to kill the Cow for this. There is plenty of mutton, chicken, lamb, fish, spicy masala and kingfishcer beer to fulfill these needs to your utimost desire.
